Softball: Paul VI eliminates Eustace

Eagles win big to advance to sectional semifinals Friday

HADDON TWP. — Brielle Pietrafesa lead fourth-seeded Paul VI over 12th-seeded Bishop Eustace, 12-1, in the quarterfinals of the Non-Public A South softball tournament.

With the win, the Eagles will travel to St. John Vianney, the top seed, for a semifinal date Friday. Paul VI is the only area team left in the section. 

PVI jumped out early taking a 4-0 lead in the first which started with a Pietrafesa solo home run.  

In the third inning Pietrafesa drove in two more runs with a single. opening the lead up even more.  

In the fifth. Rachel Robb and Sam Sack got singles and scored runs forcing the game to end at 12-1, putting the 10-run rule into effectl.  

For Eustace, Isabelle Dewes got a single in the fourth and scored the only Crusader run of the game.  

We interviewed Brielle Pietrafesa after the game: 

SJSD: How did you feel after starting the game in the first with a home run? 

Brielle: "Pretty excited.  I felt like that gvae us the momentum we needed to get started,". 

SJSD: How did you guys prepare for a game like this?

Brielle: "We practiced five hours of defense yesteray and spent two hours of hitting today just to make sure we were ready for their pitching.  I think we were ready."

SJSD: How did you feel in the third when you started off the inning with another single further projecting the momentum of the game? 

Brielle: "I feel like every time our lead off batters get on our team always follows behind.  I feel like that was good for us today," 

SJSD: How will you prepare for the next game? 

Brielle: "We are going to be doing a lot of defense and be prepared for their (St. Johns) bunting because they bunt a lot.  We will also spend a lot of time hitting again, we are very excited to be here,". 

SJSD: How did it feel beating Bishop Eustace since they are such a big rival? 

Brielle: "It feels great because we defeated them in conference play too and now to defeat them again in playoffs, it feels great,".
