College Hoops: RCGC beats Rowan Burlington to win Roadrunner Classic

Woodbury grad Ja'Zere Noel drops in 25, earns MVP honors

DEPTFORD TWP. -- First-year forward Ja'Zere Noel earned tournament MVP honors by pumping in 25 points, while second-year guard Na'Quan McPherson contributed 23 points to lead the RCGC men's basketball team to a 90-83 victory over Rowan Burlington to win the Annual Roadrunner Classic Championship on December 8th.

Forward S.J. Hawkins chipped in with 13 points and guard Luciano Lebrano added 11 for the Roadrunners, who improved to 8-2 overall as they completed a solid week with four wins, including triumphs over nationally ranked GSAC rivals Brookdale and Middlesex.

"With our wins this week plus this tournament championship, , our team has really come together well," said RCGC coach Will Wareham. "We're hoping we get mentioned in the conversation when the national rankings are released next week."

The tournament triumph was the 26th for RCGC/Gloucester County College since the Roadrunner Classic began in 1981. The four teams participating in the Roadrunner Classic included RCGC, Rowan Burlington, Williamson College of the Trades, and Valley Forge Military College.

December 8th Update: Women's Showcase

Tournament MVP Alexandria Sams (see photo) tossed in 26 points and teammate Ayanna Lewis added 15 to lead the Rowan Burlington women’s team to an 80-52 win over RCGC in the Roadrunner Classic Women’s Showcase Classic on Saturday. The Barons remained unbeaten at 7-0 overall with the win. The Roadrunners dropped to 5-4 overall.
