HADDONFIELD — Haddonfield High School sophomore Jason Garstkiewicz was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right leg in December 2011.
Three months later, then as a seventh grader, Garstkiewicz and his family were informed that in order to save his life and prevent the spread of the disease, he'd need to have his lower leg amputated.
This setback hasn't stopped him from playing either of the sports he loves: lacrosse and football.
Garstkiewicz is a tight end and defensive tackle who primarily plays on Haddonfield's junior varsity squad but also dresses for varsity games and has seen time in four of the 12 quarters the Bulldawgs (3-0) have played as they entered their fourth game of the season Thursday night (Oct. 2) when they play host to Colonial Conference rival West Deptford (3-0) in a game set to air live on The Comcast Network.
Below is a video piece about Garstkiewicz, how he's inspired his teammates and why he decided he wanted to continue his athletic career after battling cancer.
