GILBERT, AZ – Rowan University’s Kristiina Castagnola and Casey Wagner were named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America Team. Castagnola was a second team selection while Wagner was on the third team.
“Kristiina is an exceptional player that can take over a game for us at any point,” said head coach Michele Andre. “She is a complete player with her smart defense and then stick work or passing to get the ball up the field. Kristiina is an impact player from end to end.”
“Casey is the ultimate team player,” continued Andre. “She is a four-year starter and for four years she filled every role we needed from her. A smart defender and who comes up with the ball and quickly distributes up field. She also helped set up our offensive corners and had the ability to have a big assist and goals during the set plays.”
A sophomore midfielder, Castagnola (Eastern Regional) totaled 37 points with 14 goals and nine assists. Wagner was the team’s assist leader with 10 and she chipped in with two goals. Both players were selected to the Longstreth/NFHCA South Atlantic Region and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) first teams.
Wagner (Timber Creek) was chosen as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year. The senior back was also honored on the Synapse Sports All-America first team.
The Profs ended the year with a 15-5 record. They made their 20th appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
